Prosox and Kuroi'ish, the hackers who added extra, unrelated text and images to several VEVO videos including Despacito back in April, were arrested and charged in Paris.

Both suspects, whom the Paris Prosecutor's Office referred to as "Nassim B." and "Gabriel K. A. B.," as reported by Variety, are 18-year-old French citizens. They were charged with six and five criminal counts respectively, one of which related to fraudulent data modification "in an automated data processing system."

The hack, according to a tweet Prosox, aka Nassim, sent out on April 10, was "just for fun." The 18-year-old also noted the he "love[s] YouTube."

Some of the text the hackers displayed on the VEVO videos included pro-Palestine messages, like "FreePalestine" in the title of a Shakira video. The hackers targeted other videos by altering their thumbnails, replacing Despacito's usual thumbnail with an image from the Netflix's Casa de Papel. Artists targeted by Prosox and Kuroi'ish also included Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown, Maroon 5, and Katy Perry.

November 20, 2017  |  Tubefilter  |  See recent Tubefilter news »

YouTube's community of cover artists are making music alongside some of the music industry's biggest stars. Best. Cover. Ever., a competition series produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Endemol Shine North America, has premiered.

Each episode of Best. Cover. Ever. features a famous musician as its guest star. The top 40 chart-toppers solicited cover versions of their songs from their fans and then each chose two of those performers to invite to a showdown at YouTube Space LA. There, alongside series host Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, the competing artists go up against one another as they vie for the chance to perform with the musician they covered.

The first episode of Best. Cover. Ever. features Demi Lovato. Installments featuring Katy Perry and Jason Derulo are also available. Future additions to the series will give Charlie Puth, Keith Urban, Backstreet Boys, Flo Rida, Nicky Jam, Bebe Rexha, and DNCE a chance to judge covers of their tracks.

Elijah & Christine's Latest Stunt Is An Uproarious Appearance On 'Maury' Show
November 15, 2017  |  Tubefilter  |  See recent Tubefilter news »

With Elijah Daniel and Christine Sydelko's latest stunt, the uber-buzzy vlogger duo have realized a longtime dream.

After Daniel tweeted almost exactly a year ago that he wanted to appear on a trashy talk show and faux-fight with his YouTube counterpart, these dreams were gloriously realized in the form of an uproarious sketch posted today to Maury Povich's YouTube channel. In a parody of one of Maury's regular segments called Social Sit Down, Sydelko says she suspects that Daniel is cheating on her with popular storytime vlogger Tana Mongeau, only to discover - thanks to a lie detector test, naturally - that he's gay.

YouTube's Ad-Supported Originals Are Directly Competing For TV Ad Dollars
June 24, 2017  |  Tubefilter  |  See recent Tubefilter news »

At YouTube's annual Brandcast back in May, the company announced a number of celebrity-fueled shows that would live outside of the video platform's paywall. Now, YouTube's chief of original content, Susanne Daniels, has confirmed that this is part of an attempt to go after TV ad dollars.

"There's one bucket of money and the digital platforms, yes, are competing for TV ad dollars that were previously exclusively TV ad dollars," Daniels said at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival on June 23.

And it seems to be working, so far. Johnson & Johnson, who had previously removed their ads from YouTube due to brand safety concerns, recently bought an exclusive sponsorship to the Ryan Seacrest produced Best.Cover.Ever. Katy Perry's Big Brother-like livestream accrued about 49 million views over four days earlier this month. YouTube-funded, ad-supported programming from other major celebrities, like Kevin Hart, Ellen DeGeneres, and Demi Lovato will aim for similar success, as will shows starring famous YouTube creators like Rhett & Link and The Slow Mo Guys.

With 'Bon Appétit', Katy Perry Smashes YouTube Record For Most Video Views In 24 Hours
May 19, 2017  |  Tubefilter  |  See recent Tubefilter news »

YouTube fans are gorging on Katy Perry's latest music video for Bon Appétit - a surreal and sensual clip in which she is floured, seasoned, and cooked like a chicken breast. The video has officially broken the record for the most YouTube views in 24 hours, besting a record previously set by Perry in 2013 with her hit single Roar.

Bon Appétit clocked 16.8 million views on the first day of its release, Variety reports - which is significantly higher than Roar's 11.2 million views within the same time-frame. Bon Appétit also helped catapult Perry to several other YouTube milestones, including the most-ever channel views in a single day with more than 25 million views on May 13 (the day the music video dropped), and the highest number of playlist adds in one day (84,000) on May 12.
